Shiro Utafusa is a contemporary artist whose work centers on hope, spiritual journeys, and universal love.

His paintings draw from traditional Japanese aesthetics while embracing a contemporary sensibility, often incorporating gold leaf and materials gathered from nature.

Rooted in years of practice and the discipline of Zen, his work evokes a quiet presence—something that gently emerges beyond the visible.

His works have been exhibited internationally and are held in private collections.

Shiro Utafusa (b. 1983, Japan)

He began painting after studying fashion design at the age of 19.

After graduating in 2007, he traveled to Australia, continuing to paint while moving between places. In 2009, he moved to Bali, where he learned the foundations of painting. He later continued his practice in Singapore, Italy, and other locations.

In 2011, he transitioned to oil painting and now works as a full-time artist.

His work is primarily developed through two main series.

One is the “Kurukuruatama” series, featuring thirteen characters who travel the world, bringing smiles to people and animals.
The other is his dragon works, created with a strong sense of spirituality and respect for nature, incorporating materials such as gold leaf to merge Japanese tradition with Western painting.
